Creating your essay with ease: what should one know?
Writing an assignment can look like a daunting task, especially if it is one with a large word count. However, when broken down into smaller sections it is not particularly hard, and you should be able to write about the topic if your teach/professor has set it as a task for you. This article will go through the steps of creating your essay with ease.
This is perhaps the most important part of your writing. A good structure can make or break your work. A good structure makes it easy for your reader to follow your writing and your arguments. A bad structure can even make your writing incomprehensible and your points can get lost amongst the mess. The following is how you should structure your writing:
- Introduction: This should be a paragraph explaining to your audience what you work will discuss. It should not in depth but rather should guide the reader towards what you will be writing about. Think of this part as like a blurb of a book.
- Main Body: This is where the most important points of your writing will go. For example, if you are composing a research paper, then you will put your research and its analysis in the main body of your work.
- Conclusion: This is a brief summary of all what you have talked about during the course of your writing. Since this is the last thing your audience will read you need to reiterate your strong points to finish strongly.
Ideally you should complete a couple of drafts on your essay, before handing it in. What doing many drafts ensures, is that you can get rid of any typos and mistakes in your work. You can also add further information during your drafts that improves your work. Ideally you should be able to get your worked checked from your teacher/professor after a couple of drafts so you can make sure that you are on the right track.
Brainstorming and Planning
This is a step many students neglect that, if taken, can make your life much easier when composing your actual writing. Brainstorming, before you begin your writing, helps keeping track of many of the ideas you have. Many times when you are actually writing you will forget some of the great ideas you had prior to starting. You can get rid of this problem by brainstorming anything that comes to your head that you feel is relevant to your writing.
Planning also needs to be done for a similar reason. You should have a brief plan telling you what you aim to discuss in each paragraph. Planning ahead will make the structure of your writing better and easier to follow. It also ensure that ideas aren’t jumbled all over the place, and that they transition smoothly from each other.
This is perhaps the most crucial step in attaining a high mark for your writing. You need to give yourself ample of time to plan, write and draft your work. Don’t begin the night before your work is due. Everything will be done in haste and this will reflect in your essay, and as a result poorly on yourself. You will disappoint yourself, as you will know you did not allow yourself to achieve your potential. Avoid the disappointment by beginning with ample of time.
